KEY ISSUES, GOALS and PAST PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE

FISCAL RESPONSIBILTY

As a board member I will not only focus on the ICC members but I must continue if elected to promote and ensure  fiscal responsibility of the International Code Council. ICC is the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions that includes far more than just code books and certifications. Product evaluation, accreditation, technology, training, and certification are key functions that provide economic stability to our organization. The Code Council's codes, standards, and solutions are used to ensure safe, affordable, and sustainable communities and buildings worldwide but without sound financial practices we could not successfully maintain our organization for the next generations. As a Building Official for over 3 decades and now the current Chief Executive Officer and Executive Board President of Northwest Code Professionals I have the experience, leadership and practical knowledge to ensure I do my part in maintaining the sound financial decisions that have led to record financial growth for ICC. I have real world experience with acquisitions and mergers that will help in a critical area of board responsibility.

MENTORING THE NEXT GENERATION

While President for two terms and board member for many years at ICC Region II, I made it priority to address one of the most critical needs in our industry which is the resoundingly impactful shortage of Building and Fire Professionals. As Board President I created several key programs to address this issue which were all very successful and have had huge impacts on the lives of new code officials and military families across the Nation. I created the following regional programs from scratch to help fill the voids and promote the ICC Safety 2.0 Program.

  • ICC Safety 2.R Program the first Regional program in the nation.

  • ICC Region II Military Families Program

  • ICC Region II Board Shadow Program

  • ICC Region II Corporate Sponsorship Program

COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Delivering the message, the mission statement and the changes and ideas to ICC members is critical. Developing appropriate, safe and meaningful content is critical in informing the current and especially the new generation is critical in this process. As President of ICC Region II I chaired the committees in the following programs created during my service to the members.

  • Created the new web page to replace a non user friendly blog page and bring the Regional chapter into the modern era which create opportunities for sponsorship and fundraising for our Safety 2.R and Military Families Program. This also protected the brand by not having ads that might be offensive or inappropriate

  • Created and Managed the ICC Region II Social Media program increasing awareness and participation.

  • Developed the "Cuppy" concept and social media campaign. Now famous across the nation and considered one of our mascots in the industry. This program raised awareness, promoted involvement, helped promote the ICC High School Technical Training Program and led to increased awareness with ICC Region II.

  • Developed the "Spotlight the Permit Technician" program to promote certification, fair practices within chapters, credit with employers for achieving certification when considering salaries in negotiations, creating a network for permit technicians in many areas who felt isolated.

  • Developed ICC Region @ first quarterly newsletter highlighting goals and achievements

CODE DEVELOPMENT
I have worked on code development committees at the Chapter, Regional levels and as a member of the ICC Building Codes Action Committee. Working with Building Officials, Fire Officials and Industry experts to create the best codes in the world is something that I am proud of and learned a great deal from. Serving two terms on the BCAC as Vice Chair and now serving on the current ICC, Code Action Committee has helped develop and maintain great technical code knowledge but also helped me gain valuable experience in sound technical debate, working together, meeting deadlines, and participating actively in code development.
BOARD SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY

While serving on the board would be the greatest career opportunity to date, it comes with a responsibility to perform, participate, prepare and promote the values, goals and mission of ICC while maintaining the strict requirement to closely follow ICC Council Policies and bylaws. My board service across many organizations including ICC Region 2 has helped prepare for this task but also has given me an opportunity to prove how well I can prepare, run meetings, follow policies, draft bylaw changes, and focus on not just maintaining but improving policies and practices when needed. I believe I have shown throughout my career from my military days to know that I can lead with honor and integrity and improve every program I dedicate myself to working on for the betterment of the organization.

BUSINESS and Mergers and Acquisition Experience

I have been the President and CEO of two companies and managed budgets exceeding more than 5 million dollars per year. I have been in charge of Mergers and Acquisitions and have successfully ensured continued growth each year .
